Teachers can create an account for school. Provides practice and quizzes. Probably best for elementary or sped. I also like SpellingTube which has videos created by students (UK accent) to reinforce spelling.
  •
This is way cooler than I thought it would be! You input some vocab or spelling words and it creates tests or teaches the words including spelling, and using them in a sentence.
  •
Start by entering your spelling words to create free spelling and vocabulary games, activities, resources, and printables.
  •
A superb resource where teachers can sign in and input spelling lists for pupils to learn by playing games. Give pupils the link and they don't need to sign in to use it. Site only recognises US spelling when generating example sentences, but you can input your own easily. Free option should be enough for most users, but 'paid for' option is available. http://ictmagic.wikispaces.com/English

  • For what I believe to be a good example of a school portal have a look at Tim Lauer’s Lewis Elementary School site.

Kidblog - 0 views

  • Kidblog is built by teachers, for teachers, so students can get the most out of the writing process. Our mission is to empower teachers to embrace the benefits of the coming digital revolution in education. As students become creators - not just consumers - of information, we recognize the crucial role of teachers as discussion moderators and content curators in the classroom. With Kidblog, teachers monitor and control all activity within their classroom blogging community.
  • Kidblog provides teachers with the tools to help students safely navigate the digital – and increasingly social – online landscape. Kidblog allows students to exercise digital citizenship within a secure, private classroom blogging space. Kidblog’s security features put safety first: Teachers have administrative control over all student blogs and student accounts. Your students’ blogs are private by default – viewable only by classmates and the teacher. Teachers can elect to make posts public, while still moderating all content. Teachers can add password-protected parent and guest accounts to the community at their discretion. Comment privacy settings block unsolicited comments from outside sources. Kidblog is fully COPPA compliant and does not require any personal information from students.

Flipped classrooms: teaching at home and doing homework at school | koaa.com | Colorado Springs | Pueblo | - 33 views

  • The 5th graders in Doug Hinkle's class at the DaVinci Academy in School District 20 are among the first elementary students in the country to be part of a "flipped" classroom.
  • Instead of spending 20 minutes each hour lecturing, Mr. Hinkle pre-records video podcasts to teach his lessons.
  • Removing the lectures from the school day frees up Hinkle to give more attention to individual students or small groups. If you were to drop into his class unannounced, it may seem a bit chaotic, but Hinkle says it's a controlled chaos.

It a great idea , today I was attending a high school implimenting location based learning project. I actualy came to the same conclusion. forml knowledge would have better been aquired through reading and recorded information while the class would have been better used for "workshop" activity in which students would have created location based learning objects

For example, you will find videos of high school classrooms in which the technology tools could be used in the same way with middle school or elementary level students. Some videos involve students from both middle and high school grades and some involve students from both middle and elementary grades. These videos appear in both lists below.

The Florida Tech Integration Matrix is fantastic and the AZ K12 Center has also created a tech matrix modeled after it that incorporates AZ tech standards. Do you happen to know where we might find any of the teacher evaluation rubrics or tools for the Florida Tech Integration Matrix? Even self-evaluation, reflection rubrics for teachers to use would be incredibly valuable. If you haven't seen the AZ Tech Matrix you can check it out here: http://azk12.org/tim/
